palmOne Extends Its Leadership in Key Asia Pacific Markets

Latest Report1 Shows Three Consecutive Quarters of Unit and Market-share Growth for palmOne in Asia Pacific Outside Japan

Hong Kong, Sept 23, 2004 -- According to IDC1, a leading provider of global IT research and advice, palmOne, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLMO) has emerged as the only handheld vendor in the second calendar quarter of 2004 in the Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan) that registered an increase in overall shipments, with a quarter-on-quarter sequential growth of more than 11 per cent. This is the third consecutive quarter that palmOne has achieved market-share growth in Asia Pacific.

Q2 also saw palmOne significantly increase its quarter-on-quarter market-share growth in the following key markets:
- Australia -- from 19.8 per cent in Q1 to 44.5 per cent in Q2
- Hong Kong -- from 23.6 per cent in Q1 to 35.6 per cent in Q2
- Taiwan -- from 21.1 per cent in Q1 to 28.1 per cent in Q2
- PRC -- from 2.6 per cent in Q1 to 4.2 per cent in Q2

As the global market leader of handheld devices, palmOne extends its leadership in the handheld markets in Australia, Taiwan and Singapore. In Singapore, the results place palmOne firmly in the lead with a 62.9 per cent market share.

"Whilst the region saw a 10 per cent sequential decrease in Q2 as a result of slow IT-related retail sales, palmOne in Asia Pacific was the only vendor within the top 10 that showed an increase in shipments this quarter," said Manny Lopez, senior analyst, Personal System Research, IDC Asia/Pacific. "Sales of palmOne's new Zire™ models coupled with attractive product bundling and marketing programs helped contribute to the growth in the quarter."

"These results reinforce palmOne's commitment to our customers," said Paul Blinkhorn, palmOne's vice president, Asia Pacific. "We continue to provide them with the right mobile devices and solutions tailored to their business and personal needs."

During the past three quarters, palmOne continued to innovate and expand the handheld and smartphone space with the introduction of additions to the Tungsten™ family of products, the Tungsten T3 and Tungsten E handhelds, as well as the award-winning Treo™ 600smartphone, further tapping into the business market. In Q2, the company launched two new handhelds, the Zire 72 -- with digital camera with audio/video capture and playback2 and Bluetooth® wireless connectivity -- and Zire 31, a colour device designed to attract first-time users.
