Palm Opens Registration for PalmSource 2001

Fifth Annual World Gathering of the Palm Economy Set for October in San Jose, Calif.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 10, 2001 –– Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM), a pioneer in the field of mobile and mobile and wireless Internet solutions and a leading provider of handheld computers, today announced registration is open for PalmSource(R) 2001, its fifth annual worldwide developers conference. The conference will take place Oct. 23–26 at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, Calif. Participants may register now at www.palmsource.com. A reduced rate for early registration is available until Aug. 31, and a special discount is available for PalmSource alumni.

Open to software and hardware developers, the conference is the premier event for the Palm Economy, the vibrant community of licensees and the more than 170,000 developers that have registered to create solutions for the Palm OS(R) platform. Today, more than 16 million Palm Powered(TM) devices have been shipped from Palm OS licensees, including HandEra, Handspring, Kyocera, Palm, Sony and Symbol. The event includes three days of conference sessions, hands–on workshops and a technology and solutions exhibit.

"PalmSource sets the pace for handheld technology by bringing together the industry's top innovators," said Gabriel Acosta–Lopez, senior director of platform development services at Palm, Inc. "This year will offer a sneak peek at the hottest new developments in handhelds –– wireless communications including Bluetooth and the exciting move to ARM for the Palm OS platform."

This year at the conference, PalmSource participants will receive information on the new ARM core–based version of the Palm OS software. They also will have access to pre–release tools and the option to collaborate in a lab environment with expert engineers from Palm and other licensees. Participants will learn about the future of Bluetooth and the evolution of web clipping in a special Wireless Technologies session.

A highlight of this year's PalmSource conference will be the new Solutions Consulting Clinics, which are exclusive, one–on–one consultations with expert Palm OS engineers and human interface designers. A limited number of these personal appointments will be made available first to individuals who register by Aug. 31. Topics include interface design and review, technical solution feasibility, performance and debugging, code review, and compatibility.

In order to accommodate the growth in PalmSource attendance, the conference has been moved to San Jose this year. A highlight for attendees will be a party Wednesday evening, Oct. 24, at San Jose's Tech Museum of Innovation, across the street from the convention center.

Throughout the comprehensive conference and exhibit programs, participants will have the opportunity to do the following:

* hear Palm's vision for the future of the handheld industry;

* access new platform technologies and tools;

* learn more about the handheld industry's leading platform through technical sessions, roundtable discussions, labs and exhibits;

* see new and exciting licensee technology;

* meet top executives from Palm and other handheld leaders;
